GCSE Results 2018 - 23/08/2018

Students at University Academy Warrington (UAW) are today celebrating their GCSE results. A particular highlight is the improved percentage of students achieving a strong pass (the equivalent of at least a grade B) in Mathematics and English.

Results across other subjects also show a continued improvement on last year. The number of students receiving a grade 8 or 9 has also increased significantly. Over a quarter of all students obtained the top grades of 7, 8 or 9 (A/A*/A**) in Chemistry and Physics. A fifth of students obtained the top grades of 7, 8 or 9 (A/A*/A**) in History. Additionally, 100% of students who studied Statistics obtained a grade A or B.

Among the many individual successes are:

  • Ethan Holton, who achieved five grade 9s, two grade 8s, one grade 7 and a grade A. Using the reformed criteria, Ethan has performed in line with the top 2% of students in the country in the majority of his subjects.
  • Bence Barta, who achieved one grade 9, two grade 8s and three grade 7s.
  • Fatima Yozgyur, who achieved one grade 9, three grade 8s, 2 grade 7s and a grade A.
  • Cameron McKinney, who achieved five grade 8s, one grade 7 and a grade A.
  • Lucy Bretherton, who achieved two grade 8s and four grade 7s.

Principal, Mrs Misia Barclay, said: “Our students should be very proud of their GCSE results for 2018. I am delighted that they have risen to the national changes in exams and we have a number of students who obtained a grade 9 or 8, which are equivalent to an A** or an A*. Behind each result sits a strong partnership between the students, their teachers, support staff and parents/carers.”

The Academy wishes all our students every success as they move on to higher or further education, apprenticeships and employment.
