Students attend Warrington Disability Awareness Day at Walton Hall - 12/07/2018

On Tuesday 11th July 2018, a group of nine students from Years 7 to 9 attended a disability awareness event as part of the week-long Warrington DAD events. Three guest speakers shared their moving and very personal experiences of their struggles and triumphs, which inspired students and staff.  Their stories focused on what they CAN do now, not what they can’t.  All three speakers shared their battles with emotional and mental health as well as the physical challenges they deal with on a daily basis.

The Warrington Disability Partnership was set up 27 years ago to bring together services and advice for disabled people and those living with long-term health conditions.  We have students who are young carers or have physical and emotional needs in the Academy and it was good to share the morning with students from other High Schools across Warrington.

Mrs Harrigan, said: “It was hard not to be moved by the struggles faced by the two young men who spoke, but what shone out was their determination each day to find a way around their problems and achieve new goals.”

Connor Hince, Year 9, added: “The adapted car was amazing! Everything was controlled by just one hand and it meant that Dave could still drive a car and have a job.”
