UAW student’s bake-off at Junior MasterChef Competition - 29/06/2018

On 22nd June 2018, Miss Weaver and Miss Day took two Year 10 students to Warrington and Vale Royal College to take part in a Junior Masterchef Competition. The students were tasked with producing a chicken dish and a pastry-based dessert, show casing their culinary and presentation skills. The menu was – Chicken in a tarragon sauce with chunky sweet potato fries and a serving of asparagus and a chocolate peanut ganache tartelette with vanilla ice-cream.

Students were shown around the college’s impressive restaurant and kitchen and they were then given two hours to produce their two course meal.

The standard of food produced by the Academy students was outstanding. One of the judges commented that ‘the competition was very difficult to judge as the food was mind-blowing!’ Although Declan and Keira didn’t win they did a fantastic job and they were a credit to our Academy. The Chef from the college said that they were both budding chefs and the effort they both put into their dishes was outstanding.

I think taking part in Junior Masterchef was a fantastic opportunity for our students to see what it is like to work in a professional environment and I think it has given them the drive and enthusiasm to continue to do well.

Declan, a Year 10 student, said: “It was great to be able to work in a professional kitchen and meet people from food industry!”

Miss Weaver added: “Outstanding effort and teamwork by students involved – Declan and Keira were a credit to our school!”
