UAW students complete Young Nuclear Design Engineer course - 29/06/2018

After successfully being selected from a huge number of applicants, two students from University Academy Warrington recently had the opportunity to participate in the ‘Work Experience Programme for Young Nuclear Design Engineers’.

The work experience programme aims to provide students with the knowledge and understanding of the design processes and the key engineering functions.  The students spent one day within each discipline; CE&I, CS&A, Mechanical and Process, based at Hinton House in Warrington.

Mrs Leigh, a teacher of technology at the Academy, said: “This was an amazing opportunity for Maddie and Rhys, it will provide them with so much insight into excellent careers in Engineering and STEM.

Madison, a student at the Academy, commented: “During my week at Sellafield I learnt about process, mechanical, civil and electrical engineering. We made things like robots and bridges and did a lot of mathematics! Overall, it gave me a good insight into the world of engineering. It also gave me knowledge about what they do at Sellafield Ltd. It was a great experience and I will never forget it!”

Rhys, added:  “It was great to be able to learn about the different types of engineering careers. My favourite field was electrical engineering as we built a prototype of a transport robot and I was able to programme it myself. I am extremely happy that I had the opportunity to go and I now have a better idea for what I want to do in the future.”
