Halle Orchestra perform ‘A History of Music’ - 07/02/2018

On Monday 5 February 2018, GCSE students from University Academy Warrington (UAW) travelled to Bridgewater Hall in Manchester to watch a stunning performance of ‘A History of Music’ by the renowned Halle Orchestra.

The Halle Orchestra played pieces covering over 700 years, from the Renaissance right up to the 20th century, including songs which feature heavily in the students current GCSE studies. The group of students were thrilled to see music they had been working on come to life with the help of a full orchestra.

Miss Devlin, teacher of Music at UAW, said: “Students from the Academy had a wonderful time experiencing the world of music and gained greater insight into how professional musicians perform. I would like to thank the staff, particularly Miss McPoland’s and her formidable driving skills, and students who came along. Remember, music is the strongest form of magic!”

Keira, Year 10 student, added: “It was a glamourous and unique experience. I couldn’t believe the size of the venue and the violinist was fantastic!”

Miss McPoland, a Key Stage 4 Learning Coach at UAW, said: “Clearly from the reaction of both staff and students they thought it was fantastic! To see how the orchestra has expanded over the 700 years since it began was incredible and the guest performer from the Royal Northern College of Music was especially amazing.”
